The Thames-Coromandel District Council are reviewing their current Class 4 Gambling Venue Policy and Board Venue Policy and want to replace it with the proposed Gambling Policy.
The Gambling Act 2003 and the Racing Industry Act 2020 requires that Council review its policy every three years and consider the social impacts of gambling generated by pokies and TAB venues. Council has updated the social impact assessment and used its findings in reviewing the policy. You can view the social impact assessment on the consultation page.
The proposed policy maintains the ‘sinking lid’ approach for pokie machines and venues and extends it to TAB venues.
Have your say on the proposed policy from Friday 18 September to 4pm on 19 October 2020.
Elements of the proposed policy:
- a) updates the policy to reflect the Racing Industry Act 2020;
- b) applies the ‘sinking lid’ approach to TAB venues to the same extent as class 4 venues;
- c) clarifies the relocation provisions and require that any relocated venue must be in a lower deprivation area than the existing venue; and
- d) makes a number of editorial changes to the policies. This includes combining the policies into one known as the ‘Gambling Policy’
It is envisioned that the hearing will be held on Tuesday 27 October 2020.
