Preventing Pokies Harm - Invitation to a Hui for Māori and Iwi organisations

-
Event type
National

As you know, the Government has just released a public discussion document, Reducing Pokies Harm, which sets out a range of ideas for reducing the harm experienced by some pokie players and their whanau and friends. You can see the discussion document and submission form at www.dia.govt.nz/reducingpokiesharm.

We know that Māori are more likely to experience gambling harm, especially from pokies – and we are particularly interested in hearing the views of iwi and Māori organisations and service providers. We would like to offer you an opportunity to talk with us directly at an online Zoom hui - on Wednesday 20 April, from 11.00am to 1pm.

Please let me know if you would like to attend the online session, and I will send you a meeting invitation with a link to access the meeting online.

Please email Leeza.Boyd@dia.govt.nz for more information.

Pokies rules – have your say

Pokies are just a bit of fun… or are they? For most people the answer is yes, but for one in five pokie players, the answer is that they can be harmful. In fact, pokies are the most harmful form of land-based gambling in Aotearoa.

The Government wants to change this. That’s why we’re looking at ways to reduce pokies harm in our communities.  We want to hear from you! About your experience with pokies, and about what you think needs to change.

Head to www.dia.govt.nz/reducingpokiesharm to read about the proposed changes and to have your say. Consultation closes 28 April 2022.
