The Minimising Gambling Harm Infrastructure Services
The infrastructure services are a collective of key support services for the sector, who aim to strengthen the capacity of the gambling harm workforce and to support all Ministry of Health gambling harm service providers of Aotearoa, New Zealand. This unique group of individuals seek to reduce the prevalence and impact of gambling harm to the diverse populations of New Zealand.
The National Coordination Service (NCS) provides the role of coordination within the infrastructure services, which includes The Health Promotion Agency’s ‘Choice Not Chance team’, Te Kakano’ problem gambling public health workforce development and Abacus’s problem gambling clinical intervention workforce development. Together they establish the Prevention and Minimising Gambling Harm website He Taumata, that serves as a hub of information and resources for those working to address gambling harm.
Who are the Infrastructure Services?
National Coordination Service (NCS)
The National Coordination Service leads communications and movements within the preventing and minimising gambling harm sector, it is a central point for the dissemination of key messages and information for providers of problem gambling services.
Abacus Counselling Training and Supervision Ltd
ABACUS has been a private training organisation specialising in mental health and addictions workforce development and professional supervision, and client work (for those not wishing to attend publically funded services) for the past 14 years.
Te Kākano - Public Health Workforce Development
Te Kākano is the national workforce development service for the prevention and minimisation of gambling harm public health (PMGH PH) workforce, delivered by Hāpai te Hauora. This service provides specialised PMGH PH training modules and connects the workforce with other related learning and education opportunities.
Te Hiringa Hauora
Te Hiringa Hauora is contracted by the Ministry of Health run a national media campaign to encourage people to make positive behaviour changes. Te Hiringa Hauora also supports gambling harm services to deliver national activities at a local level. The work that Te Hiringa Hauora does is underpinned by research and evaluation.
